Mateo Wegzyn
Fighter Bio
My journey into martial arts began in high school, where I discovered my potential in wrestling. As a first-timer, I quickly excelled through the ranks and developed a passion for combat sports. After graduating, I balanced a full-time job while training in MMA and Kickboxing. During this time, I was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I immediately fell in love with the sport’s culture and philosophy.
However, my path was not without challenges. Early in my Jiu-Jitsu journey, I suffered a major injury. But as soon as I recovered, I found a gym closer to home, resumed training, and began competing just six months later. Winning competitions reignited the sense of achievement I had felt in my youth. Growing up, I was often told I wouldn’t amount to anything, but martial arts proved otherwise. The feeling of victory silenced doubts, proving that my past did not define my future. My ultimate goal is to inspire others by showing that, no matter the hardships one faces, perseverance and dedication can lead to incredible achievements.
Current Training & Coaching: I currently train full-time at ISLA Jiu-Jitsu in Federal Way, Washington, under Jeff Macatangay. Additionally, I run kids' programs and lead my own Jiu-Jitsu class at Fitness Quest Auburn, where I also conduct my strength and conditioning training. Beyond my personal training, I offer private coaching and sessions for those looking to improve their skills.
